First all-New England “Laughletics” Competition at Newport’s Firehouse Theater Monday Night

 New England’s first Laughletics competition will be held at the Firehouse Theater on Monday night August 23^rd at 8PM. The Bit Players, a comedy improv troupe performing regularly at the Firehouse Theater will be competing against a select all-star comedy group composed of laughletes from all over the region who have been providing comedic relief at live events throughout Rhode Island. Most of the Bit Players live on Aquidneck Island, but some are residents of other New England states. “The Bit Players even have an international flair with a player from New Zealand and one from Russia. It just goes to show that humor translates all boundaries,” said Frank Fusaro, the group’s leader who lives in Newport.

 Performances consist of a series of short-form, improvised skits, or “bits”, with four to six players alternating roles. The audience participates by suggesting themes or clues at the opening of each bit and also votes by applause at the conclusion of each bit. A large electronic scoreboard records the applause and tallies the results.

 Comedy improv groups have become a very popular form of live entertainment. From “Whose Line Is it Anyway” to “Second City Comedy Club” and “Saturday Night Live”, improv comedy provides lots of laughs for the audience and a rich artistic outlet for the players.

 Ticket price for this event has been reduced to $5. Reservations are required
